ELY AND DISTRICT BOWLS LEAGUE
Men's League
THE title race is going to the wire with Newmarket and Littleport both defeated and leaving the door open.
Isleham, Soham A, and Ely Beet B, all won twice to keep their hopes alive while Stretham and City of Ely are not out of the reckoning and it is still possible for all these teams to pinch the trophy.
Ladies' League
AS in the other divisions, a close finish is looks likely with several clubs capable of making it to the top. Soham A and City of Ely have games in hand to the leaders Isleham, who need maximum points from the last two, to ensure they stay on top. Newmarket, Fordham, Littleport, and Soham B, cannot afford to drop points if they are to have any chance.
Isleham missed out on the double when they went out of the Bill Bayes Cup to City of Ely. City will face Littleport, who knocked out Chippenham, in the final.
Afternoon League Division 1
BOTTOM club Mildenhall's shock win over table-toppers, Willingham, could not prevent their drop to the second division, but City of Ely's win against Bottisham A keeps them out of the relegation zone. Mitchell Lodge's one shot victory over Willingham was enough to put them in front, in their defence of the championship, with three to play. Third placed Burwell failed to get a point off Soham, whose late challenge takes them to fourth.
Afternoon League Division 2
NEW leaders, Newmarket A, have a comfortable advantage after six consecutive wins, as they go into the last week of the campaign. Milton had a disappointing finish to the season they had dominated and, a run of four losses, puts the top-spot out of reach. Milton are still one of the six clubs who can fill the three promotion places.
