ELY Runners' rising star Daisy Glover, put in an sterling performance at the National Schools Cross Country Championships to secure a top 20 finish.

Battling against the finest young runners from across the country, Daisy finished the 4.5 kilometre course in just 18mins 31seconds, within a minute of the eventual race winner, Loulou Rowlands from Surrey.

The speedy time saw the youngster finish in 18th position in a field of 300 competitors, and was also good enough to ensure she was the first representative from Cambridgeshire to make it across the finish line.

The race, which has been won in the past by marathon great, Paula Radcliffe, was held amid the regal finery of Stanford Hall just outside Loughborough.

Daisy's Ely team-mate Alex Marshall, was also racing at the event and came home in a respectable time of 22mins 17secs.
