A SPIRITED late fight back from Nene Valley wasn't enough to deny a gutsy Ely Runners team taking second place overall in this year's Frostbite League.

Though Ely fielded a depleted squad for the final race held in Huntingdon, strong performances from those in attendance ensured that the Runners secured the runners-up berth.

Pete Foody was first home for Ely with a time of 29:03 seeing him come home in 18th place overall. The ever reliable Daisy Glover was next home for Ely with a remarkable time of 29:20 earning the youngster a new personal best and club FJ record.

The event itself was held over the traditional road course around BRJ's HQ in Huntingdon, and, coming into the race, much pressure was on Ely to perform at their normal high level without the services of several of their regular runners who had helped ensure their success over the season.

Ely Runners' team points total of 1089 and 7th place overall on the day was just good enough to hold off the challenge from Nene Valley Harriers for second place in the league.
