RUGGED defensive work from Ely kept top-of-the-table Icons at bay for the second time this season.
Ely are the only team to have beaten Icons this season and they started the better team again at the weekend, leading by three goals at quarter time. As the rain eased, Icons started to find their form and finished the next two quarters a goal up.
With all to play for in the last quarter Ely dug deep with Alison Crombie and Celeste Gordon intercepting pass after pass into the opposition circle enabling Sue Tune and Debbie Knott to aid Ely's attack. The score nervously see-sawed between the teams with player of the match Sue Everett controlling the centre court as the game wore on. Despite a determined effort from Icons Ely held firm and earned a respectable draw.
