A superb second half performance fired Ely Tigers to their biggest victory so far this season.
The local lads ran in six tries in the second period to roar to an impressive 62-10 success over Lowestoft & Yarmouth in the Eastern Counties division of the London Leagues.
The opening stages saw Ely and Lowestoft trade scores, with John Dibb crashing over before the visitors broke through and levelled the scores.
Matt McCarthy surged through to dot down Ely’s second try soon after before Sterling Fenton jinked through Lowestoft’s defence to touch down for another converted try.
The away side reduced the deficit again but those points proved to be their last of the afternoon as Joel Scott Paul kicked a penalty before the half-time whistle.
The second-half demolition job began with Dibb notching his second, and McCarthy and Fenton helped themselves to a second try as Ely got into their groove.
Nathan Brooks added his name to the scoresheet after linking up well with Ash Clark before Jake Alsop charged down a kick and crashed over.
Lory Martin completed the rout in the closing minutes after he reacted well to a loose ball and dived over to take his side’s points tally over the 60 mark.
Ely will hope to add a third straight league win on Saturday when they travel to Wymondham. The Norfolk side sit in sixth in the league standings, three placed behind Ely.
