Ely Tigers produced one of their best performances this season to move to within a win of fifth place in Division Three North-East of the London Leagues.

The local lads dominated from start to finish against a Stowmarket side that were unable to match their power or strength and ran in six tries to ease to a 36-7 victory.

The Tigers’ winning afternoon got off to the perfect start thanks to Matt McCarthy’s early try, before Matt Ings and Joel Scott Paul dotted down to give their side a healthy advantage going into the half-time break.

Ely shut Stowmarket out in the second period and rounded off their impressive display with tries from Ricky Neale, John Dibb and Nathan Brooks.

The Tigers are now without a game for a fortnight, but will be hoping to close the gap on the division’s top five with a win over Basildon on March 25. Ely were 30-15 victors when the sides met back in November.
