AN Ely student will be one of only 100 young oarsmen selected to take part in the first National Talent Orientation Camp next year.

King's School Ely student Oliver Bradbury, whose ambition is to wear a Great Britain vest at the Olympic Games, has been nominated by the National Governing Body for Rowing.

The camp will be staged at Loughborough University in January, and those selected will have the opportunity to meet former Olympians, including 2000 quadruple scull silver medallist Guin Batten.

"Raw ability is only a small part of success in sport; self determination and hard work and support from a range of key people is what sets the 'could have beens' from the 'final achievers'", said Batten.

"On the Talent Orientation Camp the young athletes like Oliver will learn first hand about the importance of maintaining a balanced outlook on life, on what is a very uncompromising pathway," she said.

Oliver, who is King's captain of boats, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity and I'm determined to make the most of it.
