An artistic roller skater from Littleport struck gold at the Federation of Artistic Roller Skating’s Winter Solo competition.

11-year-old Kira Simmonds claimed top spot at the Kettering-based tournament, surpassing her modest hopes of a top-six finish.

Kira, who is a member of the Ely RSC, skates four times a week at the Littleport Leisure Centre and is coached by Brian Paddington.

Her mum, Lisa, said: “We are all so proud of her. We were blown away by her performance.”
