FIONA Cox, a City of Ely college pupil, has returned home after being selected to represent Great Britain in the European Artistic Roller Skating Championships in Spain.

Fiona, from Littleport, has enjoyed a brilliant season, becoming British Youth Figure Skating champion and silver medallist in the combined championships.

She was selected to skate in the German Cup earlier in the year where she was placed 13th and she performed well to finish 17th in last week's European Championships, which were held near Barcelona.

Fiona skates for Ely Roller Skating Club and trains for eight hours each week. She is coached by Paul McIlhone, a former British and European champion and medallist in the world championships, who is now national coach and director of coaching for Great Britain.

Fiona is now setting her sights on next year's world championships, which are to be held in China.

Anyone wishing to Join Fiona and her fellow skaters can go to the Paradise Centre, in Ely, on Saturdays at 1pm or Littleport Leisure Centre on Wednesdays at 6pm.
