ELY Roller Hockey Club's under11 team struck a blow ahead of their league cup final against Cambridge as they scored a narrow 4-3 victory.
The win came at the team's final league tournament meeting of the year held in Burwell where they faced off against four of the regions' top teams to decide the final league placings for the year.
In their first match against Norwich, Ely had secured the win before a ball was played as Norwich were fielding several over age players and therefore were unable to claim a win. Even so, Ely played some bright hockey and eventually drew the game 4-4.
In the second match against Cottenham, Ely got off to a blistering start and were 6 - 0 up inside seven minutes and eventually ran out 8 -2 winners.
The third match was the eagerly anticipated game against unbeaten league leaders Cambridge. The team rose to the challenge and, despite falling behind early, battled hard to get back in the match, scoring in the last two minutes to win 4 - 3.
In the last match against Kings Lynn the game was tight up to half time but in the second half Ely ran away with the game winning 9 - 2. Nikki Hart lead the scoring for Ely on the day with 10 while Emily Barrow (5), Ryan Norton (4) also contributed well. Ely ended up runners up in the league and have a rematch with Cambridge in the cup final in June.
