ELY'S two roller hockey sides enjoyed a mixed day at a tournament in Burwell.

Ely 2's match with Peterborough was delayed as Ely only had three outfield players and no goalkeeper. Eventually, the match was played as a friendly with Peterborough awarded the points. With a Herne Bay goalkeeper and a Peterborough outfield player, Ely went on to win this game 6-2, Simon Thompson scoring five of the six goals, the other coming from their on-loan player.

Herne Bay got off to a good start against Ely 1 as they had last time these two played and again there were nine goals in the match, unfortunately for Ely 1 they all went to Herne Bay in a 9-0 loss.

Now with their own goalkeeper and only three outfield players, Ely 2 put up a great show and managed to beat Cambridge 9-8. Simon Thompson again led the way, scoring five in the first half and four more in the second.

The Ely teams were pitched against each other next. The younger side doing well only 4-1 down at half time. However, after eight goals from Simon Thompson along with Aiden Cooper and Steph Collier, they won 10-2, with Callum Thoday netting for Ely 1.

Ely 2 played their last match against Herne Bay. With their depleted team they managed to hold the score down to a respectable 3-1 loss with Simon Thompson scoring their only goal.

With Ely 1 tiring, they went in 6-0 down to Cambridge at half-time. Ely1 rallied in the second half and saw some good saves from Harry Parfitt to keep them in the game.

Rees Parfitt (two) and Callum Thoday combined well up front to score three goals in reply, so losing the match 7-3.

For his goalkeeping and outfield efforts, Rees Parfitt (Ely 1) was named along with goal machine Simon Thompson (Ely 2) as Ely players of the day.
