FORMER Soham hero Matt Robinson should face the Greens for the first time when Mildenhall host Rangers in the first round of the Ridgeons League Cup on Tuesday.

Robinson left Soham on bad terms at the end of last season, with manager Ian Benjamin claiming the move was all about money.

Benjamin said: "It will be a no holds barred derby cup tie. I expect Matt will get a bit of stick from the Soham fans for leaving us, and deservedly so. But to be honest he's a fantastic player and I wish him all the best for the future - except when we play against him."

Robinson, 23, has been in fine form for Mildenhall.

He came off the bench to snatch the winner in a 1-0 league win over Harwich and Parkeston on Saturday.

After an even opening, visitors Mildenhall dominated the second half, during which Gareth Simpson drilled a penalty over the bar.

But Simpson made amends after 72 minutes when he delivered an inch perfect free-kick and Robinson lifted his header over the goalkeeper.

And Soham, who are two points ahead of Mildenhall in third place, claimed their seventh successive league win when they beat Felixstowe and Walton 2-0 away on Saturday.

Paul Jones headed against the crossbar before being denied by the home side's goalkeeper when one-on-one, before Andy Furnell opened the scoring in the 33rd minute.

The striker finished clinically from six yards after collecting a superb MichaelSimpson through ball.

The visitor's lead was doubled seven minutes into the second half.

Jones set up Aaron Turner to slot home from eight yards.
