ELY City slipped to their third defeat in five games on Wednesday night as they went down 3-2 at Histon Reserves.
After a promising start, Ely have slipped by the wayside in recent weeks, and yet again gave themselves a mountain to climb as they conceded three first-half goals.
Histon opened the scoring through John Kennedy after 26 minutes with further strikes from Ben Farrell and Craig Hammond sealing the points inside 40 minutes. A few minutes before half-time the Robins gave themselves a glimmer of hope as Simon Warren netted.
After the break Ely surged forward and found themselves back in the tie after 73 minutes as Warren fired home. Despite a frantic final quarter however, Ely were unable to restore parity and left the Glassworld empty-handed.
