ELY City moved into top spot in the Ridgeons Premier Division on Wednesday night after an excellent 3-0 win at Newmarket Town.
An Adam Murray double and a Nick Impey strike saw the Robins head the league for the first time this season, albeit having played two game more than second-place Wroxham, who visit the Unwin Ground on Tuesday.
Centre-back Murray nodded home to open the scoring after 15 minutes, latching on to Dave Wilson’s lofted free-kick. It was a near carbon-copy effort from Murray that handed the visitors a 2-0 lead heading into half-time.
After the break, Ely continued to dominate their hosts, who are languishing in 20th place in the league, and created a host of chances before Impey struck to seal an emphatic win.
Alan Alsop’s men travel to mid-table Hadleigh United on Saturday while Worxham visit FC Clacton.
