THE future of Ely City Football Club “is going to be extremely uncertain” if it is unable to attract new committee members.

That is the view of the Robins’ current committee members who, in a letter sent to the Ely Standard this week, issued a desperate plea for more local people to get involved.

The Ridgeons Premier Division outfit are also seeking local business people to get involved to help move the club forward, as well as a higher turnout on a match days and more frequent use of the club’s function suite.

Ely manager Denis Lightning also said attracting new committee members is crucial to the club.

He said: “I think it has been hard to find enough people for the committee since I started here.

“We are working on a very small budget here and we desperately need some new people on the committee.

“We desperately need some income because the club is doing extremely well to keep where we are with what we have.

“But the trouble is we are all getting older and we really need some new local people to get involved.”

Those interested are being invited to attend an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on Monday evening at 7.30pm in the clubhouse to discuss ideas and the club’s future.
