ELY City crashed out of the FA Vase on Tuesday night after Norfolk side Gorleston struck an extra time winner.
The Robins once again failed to hit top form against their Ridgeons Division One opponents following a 1-1 draw on Saturday and they were caught cold in the second period of extra time as Gorleston struck an arguably deserved winner.
To add insult to injury, the Robins were reduced to 10 men after 80 minutes as front man Richard Chadwick was given his marching orders for an off the ball incident.
The game itself was a largely even affair as Gorleston defended deep and in numbers against a frustrated Ely attack. At the the other end keeper Lee Pacey had to be alert to deny the Gorleston on a number of occasions but he was powerless to act late on as the visitors stole a march on the home defence to net.
Gorleston will now go on to face Daventry in the second qualifying round of the competition scheduled for September 18.
