ELY City bounced back from their weekend defeat to St Ives with a battling 3-2 win over Newmarket Town on Tuesday night (Dec 8).
Though they twice fell behind against a determined Newmarket outfit, the Robins rallied for the second-half and goals from Scott Fielding and Robbie Mason saw them to an important win.
Boss Denis Lightning: "It was important after Saturday's game to get a response from the team and they certainly did that in the second-half.
"In the first-half I think Newmarket bossed the game a little but after half-time we stepped up our game and put in a really good performance."

The early stages of the game were tough going for both sides as the rain sodden pitch made flowing football difficult.
The first chance of note fell Ely's way after 20 minutes as a cross deflected goal-wards by Fielding was scrambled off the line. Steve Bugg then went close for the Jockeys as he looped a header inches over the bar from a deep ball.

Ely had to be alert to clear a goalbound shot inches from the line as Newmarket began to get on top but they were powerless to stop the visitors from taking the lead after 43 minutes as Stephen Bell's deflected effort squeezed past Lee Pacey.
Despite the setback, Ely regrouped at the break and restored parity just two minutes in to the second-half as a Ben Lawrence throw was flicked on to Mason at the far post who smashed home from 10 yards.
Ely's joy was shortlived however, as almost immediately a sublime darting run and strike from Newmarket's Jamie Lane nestled in the top corner to restore the Jockey's lead.
The Robins responded admirably to the goal and began pushing numbers forward in a bid to get back into the game. After much huffing and puffing, Lightning's men finally managed to get back on terms in the 77th minute as a whipped cross was headed into the net by a Newmarket defender as Ely's front pair loomed.
With less than 10 minutes to go, Ely then moved into the lead as Fielding latched on to a Jamie Alsop long ball to smash home. The win moves the Robins on to 23 points.
