Robins battle to Yarmouth draw
AN Adam Dalby goal secured Ely City a point against high flyers Great Yarmouth Town on Saturday.
Despite miserable conditions on the Norfolk coast, it was the Robins who struck first through makeshift left back Dalby but they couldn’t hold out for the win as the home side equalised with 20 minutes to go.
The point leaves Alan Alsop’s side in 14th place in the Ridgeons Premier League albeit with a number of games-in-hand on the sides above them.
Aided by the blustering winds during the first-half Ely moved ahead with 20 minutes on the clock as Dalby’s speculative freekick from distance was lifted over home keeper Jake Jessup’s head and into the goal.
Ely kept up the pressure in the aftermath of the opener but they were unable to add to their tally as Yarmouth defended stoically.
There were half-chances for both sides early in the second half but it was the home side who struck as Gavin Norman scrambled home as Ely failed to clear a testing free kick.

The Robins were undeterred however, and might have taken the lead once more late on as Nick Impey’s rasping drive came back off the bar. Ely were unable to finish off the rebound though, and the game meandered to a draw.
