TENNIS prodigy Robin Goodman competed against some of the best young players in Britain in the national under-16 qualifying event in Bournemouth last week.

The 14-year-old from Littleport was the youngest of the 96 stars who were vying for one of the eight qualifying positions.

After a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, victory against Staffordshire's Darcy Crawford and a 6-0, 6-0 demolition of Nikki Roenn, Goodman was knocked out by Alistair Fenton, from Somerset. The score was 6-0, 6-2.

The eight qualifiers go on to compete alongside the nation's highest-ranked 24 players in the nationals.
