SOHAM’S winless streak stretched into its eighth game on Saturday after they were soundly beaten by Leighton.

Though Scott Carter handed the visitors an unlikely lead in the 33rd minute, the home side came roaring back and hit four unanswered goals as the Greens floundered.

The loss leaves Soham marooned at the bottom of the Zameretto Division One Midlands league.

Former midfielder Carter has thrived in his new position alongside the attack and he once again justified the move with a goal shortly after the half-hour mark.

Alex Austin delivered an inch-perfect ball for Michael Simpson in the box, with the midfielder’s shot deflected into the path of Carter who fired home.

The lead was short-lived though, as Leighton were back on terms just six minutes later through Drew Roberts and it was Roberts who was on target once more in the 43rd minute to hand the home side the lead.

Ben Gallant made the points safe for Town in the 74th minute and Roberts completed his hat-trick with seven minutes left.
