LITTLEPORT Lions under-11 korfball team enjoyed success at the National Youth Day Tournament at Sawston Village College on Saturday.
On a scorching hot day teams gathered from across the country to compete in this prestigious event.
The Lions, consisting of Callum, Joseph, Georgie, Ella and Lauren, all pupils of Littleport Community Primary School were two boys and one girl short of a full team.
In oppressive heat, and with the disadvantage caused by a lack of players, despite borrowing from Little Thetford, the team competed heroically in the morning and were never disgraced.
All players were excellent but of particular note was Ella's defence against bigger, and vastly more experienced opposition.
The teams changed leagues in the afternoon and this led to an encounter with a team from Kent. With renewed energy the Lions played excellently to force a 3-0 win with two goals from Joseph.
Further defeats followed but three more goals from Joseph and one from Callum ensured the day was a great success.
