A RESILIENT batting performance from Littleport II saw them edge past a plucky Ely II side by four wickets.

Despite an indifferent start to the season that was tempered by a number of losses, Port have steadily improved as the weeks have gone by and remain in contention for a promotion place in the CCA League 3A.

Opting to bat first, Ely began nervously and lost three quick wickets to hand Port the initiative. A middle order fight-back from E Aniskowicz (43) and M Higginson (36) restored a semblance of order in the middle overs for Ely but wasn't enough to stop them crashing to 121 all out.

Port's Doug Marsh led the attack impressively once again, bagging 4-20 to cap a solid day's work.

Much like their opponents, Port began their batting nervously and struggled for rhythm until the arrival of S Wallace (42*) at the crease who helped steady the ship. Wallace's push for the win was doubtlessly helped by the staggering 34 extras conceded by Ely. M Palmer's 2-12 proved the stand-out effort for Ely.
