Relentless Soham push on with Redbridge drubbing

Soham Town Rangers boss Steve Fallon was named manager of the month for the second time in-a-row as he saw his side push into second place with victory over Redbridge.

Fallon’s charges have not lost since November 2, and have won 11 out of 12 games since then.

However, this match looked unlikely to happen as games were called off across the country due to the weather.

The referee didn’t make the decision for the game to go ahead until 15 minutes before kick-off but the muddy conditions provided plenty of entertainment for the paying fans.

In reality there was only one team in it as goals from Luke Stanley and Ben Sawyer coming either side of a Michael Simpson brace secured Soham a classy win before Eljay Worrell’s late consolation goal.

Soham could have taken the lead early on but Stanley’s goal-bound shot was held up by the mud, allowing a defender to clear.

Stanley was not to be stopped though as the striker ran onto Buster Harradine’s through ball before lobbing the on-rushing keeper for his 21st goal of the season.

Stanley now sits joint top of the leagues goal scoring charts.

Three minutes later Harradine provided the second goal, sending in a looping free-kick which captain Simpson nodded home.

Soham dominated the rest of the half but had to wait until the 50th minute for the third, Simpson scoring in hilarious fashion.

Redbridge defender Daniel Smith’s scuffed clearance hit Simpson before trickling through the mud and into the net, Redbridge keeper Daniel McCartney seemingly stuck and unable to make what looked like an easy save.

Substitute Ben Sawyer got the fourth of the afternoon, heading in a Connor Wood cross in the 72nd minute.

Another substitute, Scott Davis, was left frustrated when his goal-bound strike was unintentionally cleared off the line by Ben Bradbury’s back when he was trying to get back into defence.

Completely against the run of play Soham once again failed to keep a clean-sheet, conceding to a Worrell strike in the 86th minute, however boss Fallon can be pleased with his side’s dominant display in quite dreadful conditions.

Fallon described his second successive managerial award as a “team award”, adding: “It’s a great achievement for the players, it shows what a good run of form their in.”

Fallon said he was pleased with the way his side adapted to the poor conditions.

He said: “There desire was very good, despite the conditions we played some very good stuff.

“You can see we are on a winning streak, the confidence is there.”

Fallon credited the club’s form on the ability of the players to raise their game and praised signings Joey Abbs, Ryan Sharman and Enol Ordonez.

He said: “We know things can turn pretty quickly but we have proved now we are as good as anyone in this league.

“We have to push on again; we need a similar run to stay up there.”

With Joey Abbs out of Saturdays fixture against league strugglers Waltham Forest and Harradine a doubt Fallon is keen to make sure he side don’t get complacent.

He said: “As long as we’re up for it, then hopefully we can pick up another win.”
