SOHAM boss Ian Benjamin has admitted he is disappointed with his team's finish to the campaign, but feels that the raw materials are there for an improvement next season.

His team finished league action with a 3-1 reverse at Ipswich Wanderers on Saturday - Steve Bell getting Greens' only goal after two minutes - to end with a defeat, but Benjamin is already optimistic about next season.

"I felt the back-four was working really well towards the end of the season and had grasped how I want them to play," he said.

"We've got Michael Simpson in midfield, who I'm hoping will score more goals next year, and although we think Matt Robinson's injury is long-term, we've still got Peter Hinde, who is one of our most important players in my view."

But Benjamin conceded that, although there were good omens for the coming season, he was disappointed with his team's 10th-place finish to this campaign.

"I don't think we've achieved what we could have achieved with the players we've got. If I was to look back, I'd say that we needed 30 more goals and I'll definitely be looking for an attacking midfielder in the summer.

"We've had injuries at key times - particularly with Hinde and Martin Bromwich being out at various stages - but it's not been too bad, because it's given me the chance to look at some youngsters.

"As long as we can hold onto some players, particularly Steve Bugg and Andy Furnell, then everything is there to do well next season."

Benjamin revealed that he was looking at an attacking midfielder from a lower league earlier this week, and was hopeful that an agreement could be reached to secure the player.

n Andy Chatters missed a penalty as Ely finished their league campaign with a 4-0 humbling at the hands of Tiptree United.

The Robins won the penalty on 70 minutes with the score at 2-0 after a foul on Ashley Brand, but Chatters could only hit it high and wide.

The home side added two more late on to complete the rout. Ely end the season in seventh position in Ridgeons Division One.

n Mildenhall surged up to fifth place in the Premier Division with a 4-3 win over Wroxham.

Chris Bacon completed his hat-trick in the last minute to give Hall the win, after Wroxham had levelled from 3-0 down.

Niall Inman opened the scoring on eight minutes before Bacon grabbed a brace to make it 3-0 after 20 minutes.

Wroxham battled back but Bacon's last-gasp strike ensured the win.

The placing is Hall's highest-ever league finish.
