WANDERERS' seventh successive clean sheet helped them to their third victory over Soham this season.

Rangers won their home league fixture, but the Suffolk side added Saturday's victory to wins in the FA Vase and League Cup.

Soham almost scored in the first minute when Paul Hill headed Matt Robinson's corner over the crossbar, as they controlled the early stages.

Paul Jones lifted the ball over the bar from six yards after collecting a Michael Simpson pass, and Andy Furnell, Charles Libam and Robinson all fired in shots from distance.

The hosts took the lead when Robinson surrendered possession in the middle of the park and Sam Banya set up Tommy English to score from the edge of the box.

The visitors continued to attack and Robinson fired straight at Stannard from the edge of the area.

Soham stopper Lea Jordan pulled off a fine diving save to deny English from a free-kick after 30 minutes, and the same player hit the underside of the crossbar two minutes later when attempting a lob.

Jones, Stuart Williams and Hill all had shots blocked in a goalmouth scramble just before the half-time whistle.

Jones thought he had equalised on the hour mark, but his shot was stopped on the line by a combination of goalkeeper and defender.

Soham boss Ian Benjamin said: "We had 10 shots in the first half alone. That was the best we've played for a long time, and it was very frustrating to come away with nothing."

# Soham are at home to Halstead Town on Saturday.
