SOHAM Town Rangers long wait for a league win finally ended on Saturday as they scored victory over Atherstone Town.

A brace each for Deakan Napier and Sam Mason-Smith secured all the points for Ian Benjamin’s men and ended their lamentable run without a win.

Though the Greens remain rooted to the bottom of the Zameretto Division One Central the win moves them to within a point of the three sides above them.

It took less than two minutes for the hosts to move into the lead as Simeon Smith’s effort was adjudged to have crossed the line. Benjamin’s men were back on terms less than 10 minutes later however, as Napier latched onto a long ball from Shawn Richards to score.

Minutes shy of half-time Mason-Smith bagged his first goal for the club after collecting a long ball from defence and rounding the keeper.

The striker was on target for his second goal mere minutes after the break as he bundled home a corner delivered by Richards. The points were well and truly sealed for Soham in the 54th minute as Napier fired home from the edge of the box.

The Adders began to throw numbers forward in the last quarter of the game in a bid to get back on terms and their ploy almost came off as they bagged two late goals to pile pressure on the Greens.

Despite the home side’s efforts though, they held on for their first win this season.
