SOHAM Town Rangers recorded their biggest league win of the season so far - a 9-0 demolition of Wisbech Town on Tuesday evening.

Former Fenmen favourite Darren Jimson netted a hat-trick as Rangers continued their scintillating run, recording their fourth successive league victory.

The result was never in doubt as Rangers took advantage of Lee Day's red card for deliberate hand ball midway through the first half and romped to a 5-0 half-time lead. Charles Libam, Michael Simpson, Stuart Williams, Andy Furnell and Jimson all hit the target in the first period. It could have been more and Furnell also missed a penalty as Rangers turned the screw with waves of attacks.

Jimson scored twice in the second half and an own goal and Scott Carter's tap-in rounded off a superb win for Soham.

It was a great week for Ian Benjamin's team and Rangers also booked their place in the next round of the Vase with a fine 3-1 win at St Neots Town.

Furnell opened the scoring midway through the first half. Jimson added another on 54 minutes and Furnell wrapped up the scoring on 63 minutes.

Rangers will now travel to Dereham Town for the first-round proper tie, to be played on October 6.

ELY City will also play in the first round of the FA Vase thanks to a midweek replay victory over Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

Ely were unable to see off their opponents at the Unwin Ground on Saturday and a 3-3 draw after extra-time set-up Tuesday's match. City made no mistake in the replay and goals from Lee James and the impressive Robbie Mason gave Ely a 2-0 half-time lead.

Simon Warren netted a third early in the second half and Mason completed an excellent performance with his second goal with 12 minutes left. City will now entertain Needham Market in the first round on October 6.

n A FOUR-point return from the week puts Mildenhall Town third in the Ridgeons Premier and extends their unbeaten league run to seven games.

The visitors opened the scoring after just three minutes, but Town hit back with first-half goals from Andy Pettit and Gareth Simpson. Ben Cranfield slotted home a spot kick after the break to complete the victory.

Town were unable to make it six league wins in a row when they were held 2-2 by visitors Dereham Town on Tuesday.
