LITTLEPORT 1st XI came unstuck against a formidable Great Shelford side at the weekend, losing by 108 runs in a gruelling encounter.
Opting to bowl first, Littleport's attack found it tough going against their lively opponents as, despite two early breakthroughs, they were flayed around the park by a rampant middle order.
Though there were some decent returns for S Kimsey (3-57) and J Leonard (2-50) many of the line-up struggled against a domineering middle order who eventually pushed the score to an imposing 230-5.
Port's Terry Stone provided some hope for the home side in reply as he racked up 65 at the top of the order. Despite carrying his bat however, Stone was unable to find a partner capable of sticking with him, and Port were bowled out for 122.
Littleport 2nd XI meanwhile, enjoyed a successful weekend as they won through to the final of the Lower Junior Cup, beating March IV by 100 runs.
Put in to bat first, Port scored enthusiastically, notching up 181-6 from their 40 overs. A Buxton (47) proved the stand-out performer for Port.

With work yet to do to secure the win, Port took to the field with the same youthful vigour as they had employed with the bat and soon reaped the benefits as wickets tumbled.
Excellent bowling from Doug Marsh (3-16) and L Peskett (3-21) in particular helped ease Port to a convincing victory and into the final of the cup.
