ANDREW Pickerill took gold in the North West Open Age Banded Judo Championships at St Helens, Merseyside.
Andrew, of Littleport Judo Club, fought in the under 66kg category for 12- and 13-year-olds, won his first contest with his favourite throw for maximum points, dominated his second opponent with three scoring-throws to give him the win, then faced his final opponent which he had to win to take the title. Andrew made all the right moves, scored twice to take the lead, and finished with the decisive throw for maximum points to win the contest and the gold medal.
