A LATE Owen Paynter goal gave Mildenhall their second win of the week in a thrilling encounter at Aldiss Park on Saturday.

Resources were stretched through injuries, a suspension to Ricky Cornish and Danny Mitchell ending his loan spell with the club. Debuts were handed to two players, firstly to Andreas Pruske, a German left winger who has signed a month's loan from Wivenhoe, and then his replacement for the last 20 minutes, 17-year-old Sean Heffernan, who has impressed in the reserves.

The home side took the lead on 30 minutes when a mis-hit shot fell kindly to a Dereham winger who found the net.

Mildenhall persevered and launched wave after wave of attack and they were rewarded just before half time when they turned the score line on its head. Docking hit a sweet half-volley into the corner of the net after he reacted quickly to a poor clearance to make it 1-1 and then, with seconds remaining until the interval, Wayne Goddard went on a run and lobbed the ball beautifully over the keeper from 25 yards to give Mildenhall a 2-1 lead.

Dereham levelled the scores mid-way through the second half, before the winner came in the final 10 minutes, when a neat passing move ended up with a Docking shot from the edge of the box forcing the keeper into a parried save which Paynter latched on to and coolly knocked into empty net from six yards out.

Assistant manager Ricky Cornish said: "This was a thoroughly deserved win, we didn't give up and I was delighted with the performance. The two new lads did very well for us and I just hope that we can keep up this form for the remainder of the season."

Mildenhall notched up a 2-0 win at Cambridge City Reserves last Wednesday. Goddard got both goals.
