FORDHAM kept their promotion bid on course with an emphatic 59-run win over Yaxley.
Asked to bat first, Fordham were lacking the sort of fluid stroke-play that has seen them amass some sizeable totals this term but the good work of Gavin Harding (47) and Mark Silcock (70*) saw them finish on a decent enough 175-7 at the close.
With work yet to do to secure the win, it was the turn of the bowlers to perform and perform they certainly did as a combination of pace and spin saw wickets tumble.
Craig Theobold (4-12) led the way for Fordham with the good work of Charles Forden (2-18) helping to dismiss Yaxley for just 116.
Fordham II meanwhile, were crowned champions of CCA Division 2A after recording a fine six wicket victory over St Ives.
Asked to bowl first, Fordham made some decent early inroads, as St Ives top-order proved tentative. A late rally by the visitors however, saw them push towards the key 200 mark as the home side struggled to restore order. Chris Rule once again proved the stand-out performer for Fordham as he collected 4-50 to help reduce St Ives for 197-9.
Needing a strong response to secure victory, Fordham produced some excellent batting to rectify an early wobble that at one point saw them on 26-2. With seven-an-over needed for the win, Fordham were in need of a strong partnership and Chamilla Priyankara (67) and Reece Theobold (84*) provided just that as they pulled off a remarkable comeback to guide the home side to the championship with a little more than an over left.
