SUTTON lost out to Chatteris by 23 runs in the final of the Kirkland Cup on Sunday.

Chatteris had overcome Littleport in the semi-final, posting 152-6 and restricting Littleport to 122. James South (25) and Chris Tull (27) top scored for Port.

Sutton, who had defeated Witcham in the other semi-final, were chasing a target of 125 to win the cup.

Chatteris’s total of 124-8 included 40 by Liam Boxall. Sutton’s James Nuttall took 3-14 with the ball while Mike Grady took 1-13.

Sutton recovered from 10-3, to reach 45-4 off the opening five overs. Nuttall and John Few put willow to leather but wickets fell to Matt Hollis (3-21) and Andy Bamford (2-20).

Few went for 23 and Nuttall - who was judged the Frank Lythell Man of the Match - ran out of partners, finishing 50 not out at the end. Sutton were bowled out for 101.
