Six-wicket win for wily Sutton

HARDY Sutton managed to brave Saturday’s appalling weather conditions long enough to register a six-wicket win over March III.
In one of the few matches completed on a wet and windy day, Sutton batted and bowled well enough to leave a sluggish March side out in the cold.
The much needed win moves Sutton up into fifth place in Division 2A ahead of next week’s derby clash against Pymoor.
The changeable overhead conditions meant fielding was the order of the day for Sutton after winning the toss and the bowlers were quick to exploit the spongy pitch.
A wicket each for Glen Campbell, James Nuttall and Chris Greaves saw March slip to 28-3 in double quick time and youngster Ryan Bowles (2-27) was soon in on the act to leave the home side reeling at 43-4.
J Stimpson added some long overdue grit in the middle order for March and his undefeated 41 kept the wolves from the door as Sutton continued to squeeze.
Though J Mortlock (10) and N Oliver (15) were eager to keep the scoreboard ticking over for March, they were both undone by the variable bounce and it wasn’t long before Sutton wrapped up the innings, the last wicket falling with 130 on the board.
Nuttall (3-36) was the pick of the bowling for the visitors.
Rob Braybrooke (29) led the attack for Sutton in their reply but his dismissal sparked something of a panic among the visiting top-order as Lloyd Brown and Paul Robinson fell cheaply and the team collapsed to 37-3.
An undefeated knock of 45 from Martin Cuthbertson soon settled matters down however, and some able hitting from Cornelio de Plessis, who hit four boundaries in his 26, saw Sutton to victory with more than five overs to spare.
