PYMOOR all-rounder Lourens Herselman produced a superb late flurry to deny a well-positioned Sutton side victory on Saturday.

Chasing down a respectable 152 for the win, Sutton had wickets in hand and runs on the board when Herselman was thrown the ball for his second spell.

A matter of a few overs later and the game had turned completely on its head, with Pymoor snatching victory as Herselman decimated the visitors lower order to secure a 31-run win for his side.

The win propelled Sutton out of the 2A relegation zone after a stuttering start, while Sutton’s early season momentum was checked somewhat as they tumbled down to sixth place.

Opting to bat first on their home track, Pymoor’s Darren Ebbs (13) and Herselman (26) started soundly enough, taking some of the lustre off the new ball, wielded superbly once again by Aiden and Ryan Bowles.

The Bowles continued to perform superbly throughout their respective spells, picking up 4-26 and 2-16 respectively.

Only a series of late cameos, including 11 from last man Chris Baker, were able to push the home side on past the 100-mark, with the home side eventually being bowled out for 151 in the 37th over.

Robert Braybrooke started promisingly for Sutton in their reply, slashing four boundaries before he was nipped out for 22 by Herselman.

Cornelio De Plessis clattered a four and a six in a lightning knock of 14 before he was dismissed but it wasn’t until the experienced Glen Campbell came to the crease that Sutton were able to settle.

Campbell hit a superb unbeaten 40 to guide Sutton past the 100 mark with plenty of wickets in hand and a decent enough knock of 15 from Lloyd Brown kept them in good shape.

After Brown was dismissed however, Sutton quickly crumbled, with Herselman taking full advantage to rack up 4-30 late on. Sutton’s last five batsmen fell with just two runs scored between them, allowing the home side to snatch an unlikely win.
