FORDHAM II kept their hopes of promotion alive with an impressive five wicket victory over Newmarket.

Overnight rain had made for a testing track and Fordham skipper Steve Morley unsurprisingly opted to send Newmarket in to bat after winning the toss.

The decision proved to be an astute one as, after some strong early batting, Newmarket collapsed and lost their last seven wickets for just 10 runs to finish 73 all out. Phil Dean (3-22) and Craig Theobold (2-14) led a strong all-round attack for the visitors.

At 26-4 in reply, Fordham looked to be suffering from many of the same ills that had plagued Newmarket, but the introduction of Steve Morley (15*) and Ian Baldwin (37) to the crease ensured that Fordham sailed to victory.
