AFTER reaching 128-2 at one stage, Burwell eventually fell seven runs short of the 255 target set by Histon.

Histon started their innings well, scoring 160 runs before they lost their second wicket. Mark Bissett also took three wickets, but at a cost of nearly six runs per over.

Paul Redfarn opened for Burwell and made 36, but his innings was eclipsed by Sivabalan Garthik who hit seven fours and five sixes as he made 69 from 45 balls.

Daniel Jones (34) and Alan Nash (40) then put on 45 for the fifth wicket, but despite a late 17 runs from number eight Huckle they eventually had to settle for a draw.

Fordham I 145-3

Castor & Ailsworth I 144-7

Fordham won by 7 wickets

FORDHAM recorded a comfortable win against a team which needed as many points as possible.

Castor & Ailsworth decided to bat first and Fordham took regular wickets from the outset, with Ian Jellyman removing a Castor opener early on. The first 10 overs produced very few runs and with the introduction of the slower bowlers, the visitors plummeted to 65-5. But middle order man Dan Anslow inspired a mini revival and with the assistance of a few spilled catches, Castor were let off the hook to some degree. Anslow went on to play a fine innings, making over half of his side's total and finishing on 75 not out.

Fordham's Graham Arnold (4-54), Ian Jellyman (2-45) and Chris Rule (1-19) were the wicket takers.

Castor also struck early with the ball but Matt Foulds joined Gavin Harding in the middle and the Fordham pair compiled 86 runs for the second wicket. With Fordham into three figures, Foulds went for 32, and Harding continued to play many fine shots as his side drew nearer to victory.

Darren Theobald finished things off in style with three successive boundaries while Harding carried his bat for 71 not out.

Fordham reached their target with seven overs in hand and only three wickets down.
