Isleham kicked off their Cambs League Junior Division One North campaign in style last weekend.

The local side hammered Cambridge Granta by nine wickets thanks to a superb display in the field.

Carl Houghton starred with 4-14 as Isleham skittled the city side for just 76, before opening batsmen James Tilbrook (35) and Craig Pawson (36) hit the required runs to give their side the perfect start to their league season.

In the same division, Burwell 3rds went down by 268 runs to Milton, but Sutton saw off Terrington St Clement with an impressive six wicket victory.

Ryan Burrows took three wickets for just 23 runs to help dismiss the Fen side for 160, before Mike Vincent’s excellent unbeaten 91 and 35 from Bowles saw their side ease to 161.

In the East Anglian Premier League, Burwell finally found their first win of the season by defeating Horsford by five wickets.

Both Ayden Brown and Josh Vowden took three wickets as Horsford were bowled out for 146, and skipper Jo Tetley lead from the front with the bat with a half century, supported by Ben Seabrook’s 39.

Fordham opened Senior Division One account with a three wicket loss at Wisbech 2nds.

The start was delayed due to rain but the hosts had no hesitation in inviting Fordham to bat first.

Fordham would have settled for 70-2 from 20 overs after being inserted, with Chris Summerskill going well.

Down the order, he received good support from Sam Buck (27) and Jacob Kippax (20), with Summerskill eventually making a fine 75 in his side’s total of 194-8.

Fordham eventually paid for some loose deliveries early on and despite Jason Harding’s 4-28 and Mike Spreadborogh’s 2-31 the visitors conceded 40 extras as Wisbech got home with three wickets to spare.

In Division Three, City of Ely got off to a positive start with a two wicket success over Cottenham.

Peter Liddle bowled a fiver for just 26 runs and Owen Buxton helped himself to 3-40 as Cottenham chalked up 237.

Thomas Beaumont then fired an unbeaten 54, backed up by Michael Sellars’ 42 as Ely reached 238 with two wickets to spare.

However, there was a Senior League baptism of fire for Wilburton.

The local lads marked the end of a 24-year absence with an eight wicket defeat to Newport.

Wilburton recovered from 18-3 to reach 99 thanks to a fourth wicket stand of 56 between Conor Logan and John Falconer (17).

Wilburton lost their last seven wickets for 25 to be all out in 33 overs for 99 with Ben Oakes (3-18) and Peter Page (3-3) winding up the tail.

Ollie Sellers took an early wicket at 19-1 but despite the hosts trying six bowlers the visitors sealed the points in the 24th over.

Finally, in the Junior Division Two North, Little Downham were narrowly beaten by Wimblington.

The Fenland side edged the tie by 13 runs.
