The weather was the real winner across East Cambridgeshire at the weekend.
A handful of league fixtures fell foul to the rainy conditions on Saturday, but it managed to stay dry at Fordham, where the hosts clinched a thrilling two wicket victory over Needingworth in the Cambs Senior Division One.
The visitors began soundly but then collapsed, losing four wickets in mid-innings before rain interrupted play.
Fordham’s Mark Abbott (3-9) and Jason Harding and Craig Theobald, both with 2-20, ensured Needingworth were not going to build a huge score. They were dismissed for 120 in the final over of their innings.
The ever-impressive Summerskill brothers built a steady opening partnership of 33 before Chris was trapped LBW.
This set off a tumble of wickets as the hosts were reduced to 78-6.
Gareth Summerskill finally went for a solid 39 and George Darling made a useful 16, but with eight wickets down it was left to Craig Theobald to strike the winning runs with one of two sixes in an innings of 21 not out.
In the East Anglian Cricket League, Burwell defeated Norwich by seven wickets thanks to useful figures of 3-40 from Sam Rippington and in the Cambs Senior Division Three, Wilburton were saved by the soggy conditions when at 55-5 in their clash with Cherry Hinton.
Wilburton were chasing 228 before the heavens opened, with Ryan Newton top-scoring with 20.
In the Junior Division One North, Littleport Town went down to a four wicket defeat to Milton after posting just 107 after 40 overs.
