LITTLE Downham hosted Girton and batted first. At 60-5 this looked like a bad decision but thanks to scores of 61 by opener Phil Cornwell and 44 from all-rounder Heaps, Downham managed to put a decent score on the board. The only other batsman to reach double figures was Duffield, with 10.

The Girton bowlers, Pawley (12-4-18-3) and C Cooke took three wickets each, and there were two each for Hobbs and Harper. They skittled Downham out in 42.3 overs.

In reply, Girton were almost even at 59-5 but then a devastating spell by JamesWhite saw four wickets fall for no runs and Girton went from 64-6 to 64-9 in a matter of moments. They were all out for 75 in 21.2 overs.

Downham used four bowlers and Duffield and Baker took two wickets each. But it was White's spell which did the damage. He took a hat trick and finished with the gratifying figures of five wickets for six runs off 4.2 overs, including two maidens.
