THE 2009 cricket season is fast approaching and teams across the district are readying themselves for battle after the fixture lists for this year's Cup games were announced.

The Albert Thulborn six-a-side competition will be held this year at the Littleport Leisure Centre on August 2 with last year's winners Witcham back to defend their title.

The competition will adopt the same format as in previous years with two divisions of four teams with the top two from each division then entering a play-off for a place in the final.

In the season's other big cup competition, The Kirkland Cup, the same system as in previous years will apply, with two mini-leagues of three teams vying for a place in the final (see below). The all-conquering Witcham team will also be defending their title in this competition after beating Sutton by six wickets last year.

Section A

Sutton vs Little Downham: June 1/2

Little Downham vs Littleport: June 8/9

Littleport vs Sutton: June 15/16

Section B

Witcham vs Wilburton: June 1-2

Wilburton vs Haddenham: June 8/9

Witcham vs Haddenham: June 15/16
