THREE City of Ely Swimmers are to benefit from the expertise of Olympic swimmers and top county coaches after being selected for a challenging two-day course.

Braddan Westlake, Alex Ball and Alex Noble, all aged 11, were nominated by their coach Elaine Hill because of their excellent 200m Individual Medley times.

Chairman of City of Ely Swimming Club, Paul Hill, said: "Only the top age-group swimmers in the county have been selected for these training weekends so we are really proud of the three boys. They are very talented swimmers and have worked hard to develop their skills in the water. These training weekends will be of enormous benefit to them and hopefully they will be an inspiration to other swimmers at the club."

Ball and Noble attended the County Development training course at the weekend, when they were coached by World Record holder and five-time World Champion James Hickman, and Westlake will be attending the course in April, where he will be coached by Olympic bronze medallist and Commonwealth record holder Stephen Parry.

Ely's Elaine Hill was selected as one of the top county coaches for the course.

At the county development courses, at Whittlesey Manor Leisure Centre, youngsters take part in pool sessions, land conditioning and lifestyle seminars.

The course is run by the Amateur Swimming Association, and has an emphasis on developing young swimmers and teaching them about their physical and mental capabilities at different stages of maturity.

Ely Swimming Club trains at the Paradise Pool on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. New members are always welcome.
