Brady Stone has set his sights on guiding Ely City to a mid-table finish.

The Robins have seemingly recovered from a mid-season wobble which saw them tumble towards the relegation places with a three-match unbeaten spell, which included a shock victory over high-flying Gorleston last weekend.

Ely now sit in 13th in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division table, and Stone is targeting an 11th-place finish ahead of their trip to Haverhill Rovers tomorrow night (7.45pm).

“The aim has always been to stay up but after the last few results and with the squad we have I think we can target 11th or 12th,” he said.

“We looked at the table last week and realised that we could move up to 11th with a couple of wins but could fall down to as low as 17th if we lose those games and other results don’t go our way, so it’s still all to play for.”

The former Robins defender-turned manager also has his eye on lifting the club’s first piece of silverware for four years.

“We’ve over-achieved in the FA Vase and we’re in the final of the Invitation Cup, so if we can stay up and win the cup then it will have been a very successful season,” he said.

The Robins have enjoyed an unscheduled break this week after their home tie with Swaffham Town last Saturday fell foul to the weather, and Stone admitted that the break was welcomed ahead of three-week period that will see his side play five times.

“Obviously having the game called off last weekend was a bit frustrating because we’re unbeaten in our last four and we wanted to keep that going, but you can’t help the weather,” said Stone.

“But I’ve given the players the week off before Haverhill so they’re well-rested ahead of what is another massive game.

“We’ve got a big squad so I’ll definitely rotate to keep the players as fit as possible.”

Ely travel to Kirkley & Pakefield on Tuesday evening, before hosting relegation-threatened Hadleigh United next Saturday (March 18).
