PETER Hinde got his marching orders as Soham's miserable run of away form continued with a 2-1 defeat at Wroxham on Tuesday night.

Soham have only taken one point from their last six matches on the road and face another tough test on their travels on Saturday at Ipswich Wanderers, their last game of the season.

They need to win that and hope Leiston do not win at home to Histon Reserves to take ninth place in the table, although on current away form, that looks unlikely.

Hinde was dismissed for a second bookable offence on 70 minutes for throwing the ball at an opposition player, after being cautioned in the first half for a foul.

Greens boss Ian Benjamin said: "I felt the referee was very poor. Okay, Peter threw the ball, but the Wroxham player did kick out at him before that."

The match had got off to a good start for Soham when Steve Bugg latched onto a mix-up between the Wroxham goalkeeper and a defender to put the visitors ahead on 20 minutes.

Defensive lapses once again cost Soham, however, as Wroxham drew level 10 minutes before the break and then went ahead 10 minutes after it.

Soham then went down to 10 men with Hinde's sending-off and Wroxham took all three points.

"It's been a long time since we won away from home," admitted Benjamin. "Our away form has been poor.

"We took the lead but we have a tendency to switch off at the moment and once again we got punished for it.

"We didn't really help out some of the youngsters who played, particularly Adam Dean in the first half, and we tried to be positive after the sending-off but we didn't pass the ball well enough all night."

In addition to Dean, under-18s players Brian Liston-Clark and Mark Allen - who came on for his debut - both made an appearance.

# Mildenhall have their eyes on a top five finish after beating King's Lynn Reserves 3-2 at Recreation Way on Tuesday night.

Hall must beat Wroxham and hope Needham Market do not win at Lowestoft to be sure of fifth place.

Hall looked to be cruising at 2-0 before the Linnets' second-string stirred them with two goals in the space of five second-half minutes to level matters at 2-2.

The three points were rescued, however, as Tom English popped up with the winner 10 minutes from time.

It was English who opened the scoring after 25 minutes with a fine run and shot, before Wayne Goddard sent the keeper the wrong way with a penalty on 55 minutes to double the lead.

The Linnets were gifted a lifeline back into the match on 65 minutes when Ricky Cornish's back-pass was mis-kicked by Hall keeper Ben Nower straight to an opposition forward, and when a Linnets player headed home unmarked five minutes later, the match was all-square.

English was on hand, however, to rifle home a Paul Miles cross and secure the win for Trevor Munns' side.

Assistant manager Ricky Cornish said: "We were pleased with the win, even if the performance could have been better.

"Let's hope we can end the season on a high at home on Saturday.
