Ely sailor Nick Copsey pulled off a remarkable comeback to clinch the North West Norfolk Regatta.

Nick and crew Stephen Carver battled it out over eight days and 11 races, starting at Hunstanton, then Wells, Blakeney and King’s Lynn before finishing at Snettisham.

Nick and Stephen were among the front runners but had to contend with former national champion Ian Gore and crew Alex Gore for the top honour in Norfolk.

Ian and Alex won four of the first five races to put themselves in pole position to claim the crown but, in the fifth race, Nick and Stephen won at Blakeney to give themselves the confidence they needed.

And from that point on, they got stronger with every race and went on to claim six consecutive victories to win the week.

Nick is off to Wales this week to sail in the Fireball National Championships.

With those championships finishing on Friday, it will be straight down to Pevensey Bay to compete in the National 12 Championships. Last year he finished ninth but he will be expecting to finish higher this year and looking to add consistency to a second and third place finish in races last year.
