SOHAM Town Rangers marked their pre-season debut with a comfortable 3-1 win at Cogenhoe United.

A Greens side that featured several new faces in defence came from behind to overcome their UCL Premier opponents, with goals from Tom Benjamin, Dubi Ogbonna and Andy Furnell.

Cogenhoe opened the scoring at the halfway point of the opening 45 but Soham hit back in a frenetic period five minutes shy of half-time as Benjamin and Obgbonna netted.

Both sides had chances to further the scoring in the second half but it was veteran Furnell who sealed the game for the Greens with a typically astute finish.

It was also announced this week that key defensive duo Scott Johnson and Simon Flanz have left Soham to return to Wisbech Town.

The pair were signed from the Fenman at the start of the 2004/05 season and played an instrumental part in getting the squad promoted from the Ridgeons to the Southern League in 2008.

Johnson who was Ian Bnejmain’s captain during last season played 260 games for the Greens with Flanz notching up 236 appearances.
