Netball Ely Netball Club I 37 Hawks 27
Ely rounded off the first half of the season top of Division 3 courtesy of a hard-fought victory over Hawks.
Ely started slowly and let Hawks move in to a four-goal lead. But the hosts rallied, with new shooting pair Janice Quarrier and Anita Reidy finding their form to end the quarter with a two-goal lead.
Once in front, Ely never looked back and lead for the rest of the match, pulling clear in the second half due to outstanding defending by Alison Crombie, who made some excellent interceptions to frustrate the Hawks attack.
Crombie was aided by Victoria Cutforth and Celeste Gordon to keep Hawks at bay whilst centre court due Sue Tune and Debbie Knott deftly fed shooters Quarrier and Riedy, who was named man of the match.
