Netball team off to flying start
THE City of Ely started the Premier League netball season off with an impressive win against CoJags 2.
Netball
City of Ely 49
CoJags 17
Early nerves were apparent in the first quarter but, after a quick pep talk, the second and third quarters saw City extend their lead considerably. This gain was safeguarded by some fantastic interceptions and countless turnovers by captain Sarah Smith meaning the ball rarely entered the defensive third.
Despite having only joined the club recently, Sam King and Rowena Perrin provided skilled and accurate passes into the shooting circle allowing player of the match, Jenny Tovey, to inflict more damage.
The fourth quarter was tainted somewhat when Smith sustained a nasty injury to her knee and had to be carried off the court.
