Cambridgeshire and District Netball League Division One
Ely 39 Icons 31
DESPITE a superb win over the champions, Ely narrowly missed out on top spot.
They now await a league decision to see if they will get a chance to enter play-offs and battle for the opportunity to play in the Premier Division next season.
Icons were too far ahead at the top of the table, so Ely went into Sunday's match with the pressure off.
After a slow start, Donna Liddington and Sue Deas defended superbly to restrict the best shooting duo in the division to two goals in the second period, and Ely stormed into a five-goal lead at half-time.
