League Division Two

LITTLEPORT-based Falcons Netball Club notched up another win in their bid to race up the tables in the Cambridge and District Netball League at the weekend.

Falcons opponents were Brampton based Hawks who held the second position that Falcons are so eager to claim.

Falcons started off the match strongly taking at 6 goal lead in the first quarter. Remaining strong up to half-time, Falcons now had a 10-goal lead.

Again in the third quarter Falcons stood firm going into the final quarter 30-24. Hawks then picked up the pace and with only six minutes to go had equalized. Falcons were determined to take their home game though and with some strong encouragement from on court and their supporters finally triumphed 39-35.

Falcons only have two more games in the Winter League and if they win both will have secured the second position and will enter the play offs to climb to division two next season.

n Falcons train on Monday evenings at Littleport Leisure Centre from 7pm. For more information contact Victoria on 01353 863770 or Laura on 01353 662088 or go to www.birdswithballs.co.uk.

n Ely played some of their best ever netball during the first half of their away match against MI7 last weekend. The passing was punchy, court skills were spot-on and their attack was in no mood to give second chances.

And then it all went horribly wrong. Ely made hard work of it indeed. The last two quarters seemed a world away - mistakes mounted and MI7 were handed the chance to get back into the match. Having been in a comanding position

Ely managed to hang on, eventually winning 38-33.

Division Three

ELY II away match against Hawks IV was tougher than they had expected. The home side were the best team on the day and deserved the convincing 38-17 win. Goalkeeper Alison Crombie was nominated player of the match for Ely II.

After a positive start to the season, Ely's hope of gaining promotion to division three may prove to be just a dream, following this and an earlier match having to be conceded.

n Under 15 and under-16 teams from the King's School Ely won all their matches against Witchford Village College, Neale Wade, March and Cromwell School Chatteris to win the Isle of Ely netball tournament this week
