Cambridge and District League Division Three
Chesterton 26 Ely II 28
ELY'S second team fought hard for an away win that keeps them within touching distance of the top of the table.
Ely started well in the rainswept conditions but let Chesterton back into the game, finishing the half with a one-goal disadvantage.
Ely had to dig deep, with Sue Tune and Sue Everett passing accurately and quickly into the circle, enabling Janice Quarrier and Trina Baldock to score some fine goals in the driving wind and rain.
The defence of Alison Crombie, Victoria Cutforth and Celeste Gordan fought hard in the final quarter and made some excellent interceptions, frustrating the Chesterton attack and thwarting their chances on goal.
Player of the match was awarded to Sue Everett for another outstanding display.
